The Royal Lochnagar Distillery is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland, located near the River Dee. The distillery was named after the nearby mountain Lochnagar. In 1845, the distillery was founded by John Begg. Queen Victoria bought the castle, which was right next to the distillery, in 1848. John was appointed purveyor to the court and the Lochnagar distillery was thus given the addition "Royal". On the bottle is a white mysterious stallion. It tells the legend of the thick and cool fog with which the distillery was surrounded on the Royal Deeside, until a proud stallion, white as snow, emerged. The Royal Lochnagar 16 Years Old Special Release is part of Diageo's 2021 Special Release series. All whiskies in this series are bottled at cask strength and are strictly limited. This whiskey is aged in Refill American Oak Casks and European Oak Casks. Tasting notes:Color: Golden sunshine. Nose: Soft, round, mossy, slightly fruity, woody, hints of orange zest and green apples wrapped in a touch of puff pastry, white grapes, spice. Taste: Creamy smooth texture, sweet, intense, lush fruit acidity, barley sugar, touch of oaky dryness. Finish: Long lasting, warming, slightly woody, white pepper. With a little water, the creamy texture and sweetness soften even more, while an appetizing spicy warmth develops.
